Interactive Whiteboards

We want engaged students using Interactive Whiteboards for collaboration, concept development and student centered learning rather than classrooms of engaged teachers who control the technology at the front of the class

Brands in Australia

Best Board - Smartboard
I really like the Smartboard, because it allows children to touch and feel the board with their fingers. This is important if you want student directed learning and engagement as the student feel that they have a real connection with the board. The online resources are excellent and there are lots of online communities.

Best Board - Promethean
These boards have jumped to my equal favorite now that they have the ability to have two students using the board at the same time. Student collaboration is essential if we are to change classroom practices.

Value for Money- Teamboard
Teamboard from AV media has a nice lower priced board which suits most schools on a budget

Beware
Portable boards. While these provide flexibility, you end up with the projector, power leads, laptops leads and more right where you want students to be - in front of the board. They also go out of calibration very easily.
Products that you can use on a whiteboard or wall. These have been around for some time, however they do provide a very small screen size and come out of calibration very easy. REMEMBER. You get what you pay for!

Key points

  • Mount the board so the smallest student can reach the top of the board
  • Make sure you have a strong projection fixture as ceiling fans, doors shutting and student movement can send IWB's out of sync very quickly
  • Look for the new board mounted projectors, enabling less shadow on the IWB
  • PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT. Often the missing factor. Extended training sessions of 2 to 3 hours is recommended, with teacher play time as home work.
